Meet the Staff
Gil Rugh is the pastor-teacher of Indian Hills Community Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the featured teacher of Sound Words, the non-profit ministry of Indian Hills Community Church.
The emphasis of Gil’s ministry is the careful study and verse-by-verse exposition of the Bible, with special attention devoted to the historical and grammatical background behind each passage.
Gil holds a Ph.D from The California Graduate School of Theology and an M.Div. from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana. He is dedicated to equipping the saints for ministry on the local, national, and international levels.
Gil’s teaching ministry extends around the globe via the world-wide-web. Sound Words has distributed countless books and recorded sermons since its inception in 1975.
Gil and his wife, Marilyn, live in Lincoln, Nebraska, and have two grown children: Greg and Cheryl. They also enjoy the lively company of six grandchildren.
At 80 years old, Eddie Masters remains busy with visits to hospitals in Lincoln and Omaha, as well as rehab centers, retirement and nursing homes. His wife, JoAnn, often makes visits with him.
Eddie also officiates at funerals and grave side services. He oversees the Prime Time ministry for senior adults, the benevolent fund and helps with biblical counseling.
A graduate of St. Paul Bible College, Eddie has served as Senior Pastor in six churches in the midwest since 1954. He joined the IHCC pastoral staff in 1990.
According to Eddie, he hopes to continue serving this local church as long as he can “cut the mustard.”
A Bible teacher since 1968, Donald enjoys teaching theology, historical theology (study of the development and history of Christian doctrine), and issues in our contemporary world (relating the truths of Scripture to the views of the skeptical unbeliever). He also enjoys teaching the Word in a systematic and expositional style, and is currently teaching through the Bible during the Sunday school hour. His passion is to see the Truth of God taught in its entirety.
Donald holds a BA in Architecture from Kansas State University. Donald and his wife, Wanda, are the parents of three grown daughters. They have seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Donald joined the pastoral staff in 1973.
Donald and Wanda enjoy travelling and leading study tours.
Pastor of Youth Ministries
On staff since 2009, Duane is responsible for all the youth ministries. He teaches high school students Sunday morning, junior high students Wednesday night, and oversees Vacation Bible School, Girls of Grace, Boys of Faith, Children’s Church, preschool classes, and the nursery.
As the leader of these ministries, Duane’s desire is for the truth to be taught to each age group, at a level they can understand.
Duane holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from UNL. He and Laura were married in 2009.
Pastor of Music
With a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a minor in Music Technology from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Aaron Nicholson is responsible for developing the Music Ministry and planning and preparing music for the Sunday morning and evening worship services, and special events.
As Pastor of the Music Ministry, Aaron’s desire is to help each singer and musician develop their voice or instrument to the best of their ability and for the glory of God. With that in mind, Aaron leads rehearsals for the choir, orchestra, praise team and band.
Aaron and his wife, Audree have been married since 2011 and have one daughter.
Ever since Aaron was five years old, he thought he would become a doctor. However, in his first year of college he found himself playing worship songs when he should have been studying, and thought, “Why don’t I do what I love?”
As Media/Publications Director, John can be found printing or designing whatever is needed, which includes book covers, promotional slides, flyers, and postcards. He also oversees video production, the computer network, website and serves as the tech support for the staff.
John and his wife, Denelle, are the parents of two children and John is an alumni of the UNL Drumline.
As Maintenance Director, Kevin Wheat’s charge is to take care of all church property, buildings, and grounds. This includes the Alpha Omega House and church houses.
Besides small construction projects, Kevin’s responsibilities are to maintain the roof, sprinkler system, and parking lot. He oversees all electrical and plumbing aspects of the buildings and houses, and makes sure the vans are running each week, that the grounds look good, and that the carpets are clean.
Kevin and Tammy were married in 1992. They are the parents of five children.
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys taking pictures, shooting guns and camping.
As editor, Gale is responsible for church publications and can be found working on books and booklets or writing copy for whatever is needed. Gale holds a Bachelor of Arts from Winona State University, Winona, Minnesota, and is a Master Craftsman graduate of the Christian Writer’s Guild, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In her spare time Gale writes historical fiction and enjoys traveling.
Sound Words Manager
Besides overseeing Sound Words Bookstore and the website bookstore, Twila edits the audio recordings of Bible classes and Sunday messages before putting them on the website. Always looking for good material, she keeps track of new books coming out by reliable authors.
Twila is a graduate of Kearney State University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration and Math. She enjoys biking and travel that is related to mission work.
Handling complicated transactions, assisting with special donations, and preparing financial reports are some of Carroll Lavalleur’s responsibilities as part time Assistant Treasurer. Carroll has always loved numbers and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Doane College. Married in 1983, Carroll and his wife, Sharon, are the parents of four children.
Carroll received his name as a result of being born on Christmas Eve. Although his name has been a challenge all of his life, now, it is mostly confusing. Instead of a thorn in the flesh, Carroll has come to appreciate his “unorthodox” name and how God used it to save him.
Carroll likes to collect M&M dispensers in his spare time.
As custodian, Charles is responsible for keeping the church building clean and tidy.
Charles and Marilyn have been married since 1960 and are the parents of two grown children.
As part of the security team, Dale answers questions, helps people with whatever is needed, takes phone calls, and makes sure the building is empty before locking the doors.
Dale and Lynn were married in 1998. They are the parents of four children. Dale enjoys running 5Ks, 10Ks, and half-marathons.
As part of the security team, Doug answers questions, helps people with whatever is needed, takes phone calls, and secures the building.
Doug and Joanna were married in 1995 and together they have one son.
Doug enjoys riding motorcycles.
As part of the security team, Jerry answers questions, helps people with whatever is needed, takes phone calls, and secures the building.
Jerry has two grown children.
In his spare time Jerry likes to serve the body.

Rick and Carol were married in 1991 and have three children.
In his spare time, Rick enjoys going to his children’s sporting events and activities.
