If God asked you, "Why should I let you into heaven?”, what would you say? Many people think that if they are good enough, God will let them into heaven. The problem is that the Bible says otherwise. In fact, before it has good news for us it has bad news. You may think you are a good person, but God says that no one is. "There is none righteous, not even one;" Romans 3:10. You may think that you are not THAT bad, but God says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23. There is more bad news...The penalty for sin is death! Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death". What we earn for sinning is death - a physical death in this life (James 2:26) and an eternal death in hell in the next life (Revelation 20:11-15). The Bible also tells us that on our own, we are helpless to erase our guilt before God (Romans 3:10-18, 5:6).
THERE IS GOOD NEWS! Thankfully Romans 6:23 doesn't stop with, “For the wages of sin is death,” it goes on to say, “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
But who is Jesus?
Jesus is God become man. Colossians 2:9 says, “For in Him [Jesus] all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,” is the Jewish Messiah/Christ foretold in the Old Testament. Matthew 16:16 says, "You [Jesus] are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
What did He do?
He never sinned yet died in our place. 1 Peter 3:18 says, “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God.” Proving He was who He claimed to be and that His death for sins was accepted by the Father, Jesus rose from the dead. 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 says, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”
What must we do to receive Christ's payment for our sins?
Believe! Romans 10:9 says, “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;”.
What does it mean to believe? It means not just knowing the facts, but agreeing with God about your sin and guilt and trusting Him as your Savior. It means turning from trusting in yourself to trusting in Christ. It means submitting to Christ as Lord and Master. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Understand the cost!
Jesus said, "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 10:37-39
Understand the benefit!
Those who truly believe in Christ will receive: Forgiveness of all their sin. Freedom from the power of sin. A genuine desire to follow and obey God. The promise of eternal life with God in heaven.
Your eternal destiny is at stake!
"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.“ Acts 4:12
Are you willing to receive this gift today by believing what the Bible says about our sin and guilt before God. Are you willing to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and on the third day rose from the dead? Is there anything that prevents you from accepting this free gift of forgiveness and life?
