Our All-Powerful God
How great is God’s arm? To what can He be compared so we can grasp the breadth of His power? What are the historical fingerprints of what He has accomplished in times past? What has He promised to do in the future? Who are the recipients of His great deeds?
God Is Like No Other
Ephesians 1:11 tells us that God exercises His limitless power out of His own desires.
Also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will.
God consults no one for advice. He works out of His own kind intention consulting only with Himself, with no conflict within the godhead. This is what God does regarding all His actions both in the heavens and on the earth. He exercises His power in all realms as He is omnipresent, working all things out of His own will and His children are His chosen benefactors.
The Babylonian Army (Past)
Jeremiah speaks from the context of the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem. He told King Zedekiah of the coming Babylonian exile. That brought persecution from a king who did not want to hear the truth from God by way of Jeremiah. Jeremiah was placed under guard at the king’s house as the Babylonian army surrounded Jerusalem. Can God restore the prophet or the city from this awesome world power? What are we to do in lesser predicaments? Answer: Follow Jeremiah’s example and go to God in prayer.
Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You (Jeremiah 32:17).
Israel was taken hostage by God’s just hand, yet His mercy was shown later by bringing many back again to safety.
Behold, I will gather them out of all the lands to which I have driven them in My anger, in My wrath and in great indignation; and I will bring them back to this place and make them dwell in safety (Jeremiah 32:37).
Seven-Year Tribulation (Future)
The statement in Revelation 19:6 is a prelude to the church’s invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb.
Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.”
The Lord is our God. He is the Almighty. He reigns. He is our king. This statement is made after God’s power has been displayed while putting down the false world religions through the seven-year tribulation. God’s reign displays Him at the pinnacle of all power.
God’s Eternal Accomplishments
Remember the former things long past, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, “My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure”; calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of My purpose from a far country. Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it (Isaiah 46:9-11).
There is no other being comparable to God. He is the initiator of His own concepts, the planner of their development, the power that drives their actions, the sustainer of all His accomplishments, and the One Who receives praise for all He does. As we look back into history there is none like the creator God. From the beginning He also knew the future. God takes great pleasure in what He accomplishes. God conceives a concept, speaks, and it comes about. What He plans, He will certainly do. He is all powerful. We can ponder God’s work through Pharaoh, Cyrus, those of Hebrews 11, you, and me. We serve the great God. He uses whom He wishes, even the sins of men, to accomplish His desires.
Conclusion
At one time or another in our life, as with Jeremiah, each of us will meet pain and sorrow. We must always bring this to our all-powerful God. He alone has the power to use temporary difficulty to fix our attention more closely upon eternal values that are much weightier than earthly trials. Praise Him.
