God: Present and In Charge

GOD: PRESENT AND IN CHARGE
Perfections (attributes) of God revealed in at least 3 ways:
1. Creation
2. Word of God
3. Word made flesh – Jesus Christ
God is Spirit – “worship in spirit and truth” John 4:24
Man is finite - 1 Cor.2:11; 1Thess. 5:23
Non-moral attributes of God: Omnipotence; Omnipresence; Omniscience
A. GOD’S OMNIPRESENCE – “present everywhere at once”
Can anything or place contain God? 1 Kings 8:27
Can we hide from God? Psalm 139:7-10
Isaiah 66:1….heaven/throne….earth/footstool
Jeremiah 23:23, 24…..near/far….hide/see
Acts 7: 48-50…..Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands
Acts 17:24 …….does not dwell in temples made by human hands
So…..how is God “everywhere?”
B. GOD’S OMNISCIENCE – “knows everything”
Psalm 139:12…….no fact hidden from His knowledge
Psalm 44:21…..not even secret intentions
Revelation 2:23……searches minds/hearts
Isaiah 65:24…..before call/while speaking/hear
1. God knows Himself perfectly.
Jeremiah 17:9-10……Lord searches heart/tests the mind
Hebrews 4:12-13……..soul/spirit, joints/marrow, judges thoughts/intentions. Nothing hidden!
2. God the Father, the Son, and the Spirit know each other perfectly.

3. God knows things actually existing.
a. Inanimate creation
Psalm 147:4
b. Men and their works.
Psalm 33:13-15
c. Men’s thoughts and hearts.

4. God knows all things possible.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO/FOR BELIEVERS?
1. Assurance.
2. God’s presence means He supports, strengthens, and helps us to do whatever He has called us to do, either as a spiritual gift, or in everyday living.
3. God is also a shield against temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:13
4. Deterrent to Sin.
WHAT ABOUT THE UNBELIEVER?
1. God’s omniscience should be a fearful thing to the unbeliever, because God knows His heart. 1 Corinthians 2:18-20
2. There is a promise of judgment.
