Worship: honor and adoration directed to God
--honor, adore, delight in, glorify, and enjoy God Key word: acceptable
Categories of acceptable worship
1. Outward dimension – how we behave toward others
* Sensitivity to other believers - Romans 14:18
* Sharing the Gospel with the lost - Romans 15:16
* Giving to those in need - Philippians 4:18
2. Inward dimension – our personal behavior: Doing good, godly behavior
3. Upward dimension - worshiping God
* Praising God - Hebrews 13:15-16
* Giving thanks
Whole-life worship - using our bodies, our lives, our time for worship-/Romans 12:1-2
Priority of worship - Worship, Walk, Work, Mary and Martha -- Hebrews 11:4-7
The command to worship
* Christ Object of worship: God
* Foundation of worship: saving faith in
Transforming sinners into worshipers
* Salvation: produces worshiping people - John 4:23
* Motive: believers’ lives glorify God
Acceptable worship: First, justification. Second, work
Challenges to worship: Mixed motives, weak flesh, wandering minds and affections
Judgment of believers - No desire to worship, refuse to honor God, refuse to give thanks ( Romans 1:18-2)
Saving faith resulting in worship
Salvation in Christ, desire to honor God, faith that endures, growth in righteousness, greater desire to glorify God
