“God has a magnificent and wonderful design for women. It is a design which will fulfill their created purpose, maximize their uniqueness, make them a blessing to the world, and bring fulfillment to their own lives and glory to the name of God.” MacArthur

“a portrait of feminine wisdom” - Brownback

Her character as a wife
1. She is trustworthy in all areas of her marriage (Prov. 31:11)
* the most important and intimate relationship in the home is built on trust
2. She is concerned to do her husband "good", not evil at all times (Prov. 31:12; Titus 2:4-5)
* She loves her husband (philandrous) (Titus 2:4)
o Phileo love is the love of a beloved companion (Gen. 2:18). It is the “love between very close friends” a “tender, affectionate, passionate kind of love” that “emphasizes enjoyment and respect in a relationship.” - Carolyn Mahaney
* She "helps" her husband (Gen. 2:18)
o We have the privilege to be God's appointed helper for our husbands. We are designed to help him become all that God intends for him to be.
* She respects her husband (Eph. 5:33) and doesn't shame him (Prov. 12:4)
o “God has designed your husband to need respect, and He has commanded you to be the principal source of it.” - Nancy Wilson
* She submits to her husband willingly thereby honoring God (Titus 2:5; Col 3:18)
o “A woman who trusts in God can rest in her submission to her husband and can do good in her calling as wife…” - Nancy Wilson
3. her husband is known in the gates (Prov. 31:23)
* "her husband has an influential, important position because of the kind of wife he has. The evidence of being an effective wife is not that she sits in the gate, but that her husband does." - Gil

Her diligence as a homemaker
* She “WORKS at home” (Titus 2:5; 1 Tim. 5:14)
o She is not idle; she is not a busybody (1 Tim. 5:13)
o She delights in providing for her family's needs; there is joy in her labor v. 13
o v. 18 "She senses that her gain is good" She is motivated to provide for her family because it is good for them...all of her efforts brings them joy. (Col. 3:23)
o This woman does not neglect her appearance. She adorns her beauty for her husband. (Prov. 31:22; 1 Tim. 2:9-10; 1 Pet. 3:3-4)
o Our lives are to be busy doing "good" and God will supply us with all the time, energy, and ability we need to glorify Him as we manage our homes.

* Her attitude is one of lovingkindness (Prov. 31:26; Eph. 4:29)
o The ultimate purpose of phileo love is “nothing less than the salvation of our children’s souls. This is the chief end of mothering.” Carolyn Mahaney
* Timothy’s mother and grandmother are examples of a godly influence (2 Tim:1:5; 2 Tim. 3:15)
* Her reward is the praise of her children (v. 28), her husband (v. 29) and those in the city (v. 30)

Her relationship with God (Prov. 31:30)
God's instructions are simple but impossible to carry out without an ongoing, vital relationship with Him. He is our help; He is our strength and He WILL provide everything we need to live a godly effective life as women.
How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, you will be happy and it will be well with you. (Psalm 128:1-2)
